Web Analytics Consultant
Web analytics consultant Site-Seeker, Inc. reports that its primary affiliate, ThomasNet (part of the Thomas Industrial Network) has updated its web analytics software, known as WEBTRAXS, to provide a more intuitive user interface and other advanced tools including:
- Cleaner user interface;
- Reverse IP lookup;
- Easier to use date range selector; and
- Pre-defined and printer friendly reports.
WEBTRAXS permits the web analytics consultant and individual user to:
- Assess the effectiveness of internet marketing programs from the desktop;
- More efficiently judge changes over time; and
- With the reverse IP lookup tool, see what types of companies are visiting their websites.
As a web analytics consultant, Site-Seeker locates and applies the best cutting edge technologies available to improve the performance of our clients’ websites. WEBTRAXS is unique in its ability to assess the effectiveness of ThomasNet programs in particular and internet marketing programs in general. WEBTRAXS is often provided free of charge to ThomasNet customers as well as companies interested in exploring the benefits of ThomasNet. Most of the new WEBTRAXS features are self-explanatory; however, a Site-Seeker web analytics consultant explains the reverse IP lookup tool below.
- What it does:
- The reverse IP lookup tool determines each visitor’s organization via IP address. By associating an IP address (e.g., 123.45.67.890) with a domain name (e.g., www.abcinc.com) and, subsequently, with a company name (for some visitors), WEBTRAXS displays the corporate ownership of a visitor’s IP address. For visitors who own their IP addresses, WEBTRAXS enables the user to see which companies are visiting the user’s website and what products/services interest them.
- What it does NOT do:
- If the IP addresses of visitors are owned by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as America Online or Road Runner, WEBTRAXS does not provide company names.
- WEBTRAXS does not provide personal information such as visitor names, phone numbers, and addresses; therefore, the privacy of visitors who want to remain anonymous is protected.
- What it means to the web analytics consultant and individual user:
- The user is better able to judge the quality of website traffic. If the user’s products/services are sold to the military and the user’s site receives visits from branches of the service or military contractors, the user can conclude internet marketing efforts are attracting the right types of visitors. If the user’s site is not attracting the right types of visitors, it’s time to reassess how traffic is being driven to the website.
- The user is better able to determine the quality of individual referral sources. The majority of visitors to Google, Yahoo, and MSN are not industrial business to business (B2B) buyers or specifiers; rather, they are surfers looking for information about particular interests. Conversely, traffic from an industry specific search engine, such as ThomasNet, has a much greater probability of being from individuals involved in that industry. If a search is conducted on both Google and ThomasNet (www.thomasnet.com) for the term “transformers,” the Google search returns sites selling toys, but the ThomasNet search returns sites selling electrical devices. Why? Because more Google users are interested in toys than electrical devices, but more ThomasNet users are interested in industrial B2B products than toys.
